Welcome to the ADEG
The Amuri area is set in North Canterbury and incorporates the towns of Culverden, Waiau and Rotherham. It is a very rural setting which although it has always been an agricultural area, used to primarily be a sheep farming area.
Following the irrigation extension in the mid 1980’s there was an increase in the dairying industry in the Amuri area to the detriment of the sheep farming. This high-lighted other issues for the emerging industry, the main one being finding and retaining staff. The industry as a whole did not have a great reputation and neither did the Amuri area in particular.
Following much consultation, the Amuri Dairy Employers Group (ADEG) was formed on 12th June 2000. The group was successful and proved to be a role model for other dairy Employers groups in New Zealand.
The ADEG has refreshed its purpose and is looking to recruit new members now.
